Never Bet The Devil Your Head
by: Edgar Allen Poe

Summary - The author himself is the narrator whom starts off elaborating on how he has never written a moral tale. Then goes on introduces us to his friend Toby Dammit, a man with many practices in his life. He often used the expression "I'll bet the devil my head" as he made bets he could not cover. While driving one day Dammit and the narrator ran across a bridge that caught Dammits attention and unusually put him in a good state of mind but also made him want to decide to bet the devil that he can leap over it. As he attempts to make the perfect leap an old man nears and watches Dammit fail. He fell backwards and as the narrator went over to check on Dammit he notices that his head is gone.
